About The Artist The man behind SLIMSULIART: (If you can image it... I can create it.) Sulaiman Onque is a multitalented Newark, NJ born artist with a strong passion for all forms of art. Sulaiman has been drawing since pre-school and kept playing around with art until he was later noticed by his elementary art teacher Professor Bernard. It was then that art became more competitive for Sulaiman. His artwork has been entered into numerous art contests throughout his time at Burnet St School. Sulaiman received recognition from the Newark Municipal Council for being semi-finalist for Newarks 150th Anniversary- A Shining Past & Brighter Future poster contest in 1986. He graduated in 1988 and went on to attend Arts High School where his art skills were enhanced by the great teachings that were made available to him. Sulaiman first appeared in the Newark Star Ledger in 1991/03/04 for a collaboration mural called Images of the Law that was dedicated to the New Jersey Law Journal. Sulaiman taught comic book illustration and cartoon rendering to children at The Ironbound Community Center during the summers of 1999 and 2000. He did a painting for the Harlem Theater Company 2002 to promote the Harlem Fringe Festival. Sulaiman recently appeared on a WMBC-TV news broadcast that covered the art exhibit at Essex County College on January 27, 2005. The interview however was recorded on February 20, 2005. | ||||
